Description

The air shaft cap to the former railway tunnel is located on High Street in Whitehaven. It was built to ventilate the Whitehaven and Furness junction railway, which opened in 1852 and runs beneath the grounds of Whitehaven Castle and part of the town. The structure is made of red brick and features a stone parapet.
