Description
The building known as the Gascoigne Building, formerly the Rectory, was constructed in the late 17th century and later altered in 1845 by architect William Donthorne. It is a tall two-storey house featuring a steep stone slate roof. The original southern front has three gabled dormers and two tall stone chimney stacks, along with coved eaves. The first floor includes four windows and a lunette between the two outer windows at both ends. The windows are late sash style with labels, which complement the large late extension. The 19th-century front elevation features a two-storey porch with a crenellated parapet and one window. Despite the later modifications, the character of the older part of the building remains prominent. All the listed buildings on the west side of North Street form a group.
