NORTH STREET (West Side) No 3 The Gascoigne Building

(Formerly listed as Premises occupied by Welland and Nene River Authority, previously listed as the former Vicarage)

18.6.55.

GV II

Formerly the Rectory. Later C17 and 1845 by William Donthorne. A high two-storey house with steep stone slate roof. Original front to south with three gabled dormers, two tall stone chimney stacks, coved eaves. Four windows to first floor and a lunette between the two outer windows at both ends. Late sash windows and labels, the latter particularly in keeping with the large late extension. C19 front elevation has a porch of two storeys with crenellated parapet and one window. In spite, however, of the later work the important character of the older part is still dominant.

All the listed buildings on the west side of North Street form a group.
