Description

No 16 on High Street is a building dating from 1834, designed for Dr. Rumsey by the architect Gilbert Scott, making it one of his earliest works. It features a simplified Neoclassical style and is constructed of red brick. The building has three storeys and includes four sash windows with glazing bars, set in reveals beneath flat arches. There is a modern shop window that lacks a cornice on the fascia. To the left, an archway leads to a passage that contains a stone plaque inscribed with the date of construction and the name of the owner. Nos 14A, 16, and 18 form a group.
