Description
The George Hotel is a building with a core that dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, featuring a late 17th-century wing at the rear. The street-facing side has been refaced in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of red brick and has an old tiled hipped roof, complete with a chimney on the front slope and a heavy timber corbelled eaves cornice. The building stands three storeys tall.
On the second floor, there are four sliding casements positioned under a cornice. The first floor features four sash windows with heavily moulded architraves and hoods. The ground floor is cement rendered and includes pilasters that support an architrave and cornice running across the front. To the left, there is a door with a modern hood on brackets, flanked by a sash window on each side. To the right, there is a carriage entrance. All windows are fitted with glazing bars.
The rear wing is made of chequered brick and has a coved cornice. It displays a five-window range of cross windows with leaded lights and gauged brick heads, two of which are blocked. The ground floor has undergone more alterations compared to the upper levels.
