Description

The Old Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century that has been altered over time. It features whitewashed roughcast with the upper storey having concealed timber framing. The roof is covered with old tiles and there is a large central brick chimney. The building has two storeys, with the upper storey jettied at the front. It consists of two gabled bays, with the right bay being a cross-wing that includes a central gabled two-storey porch projection. The windows are 20th-century leaded casements, with the main bays having four-light windows and the ground floor featuring canted bay windows. The porch projection is also jettied and has an old two-light leaded casement on the first floor, along with a 20th-century door and a 20th-century lean-to tiled verandah. At the rear, there is a catslide roof, which may be of a later date, and a 19th-century single-storey extension. There is also a 20th-century whitewashed brick extension set back to the right. Inside, timber framing is visible in the upper storey, which includes some curved braces.
