Description

Apple Tree Cottage is a house, originally two cottages, dating from the 17th century, with later alterations and extensions. The construction is timber framed with colourwashed brick infill on the south side and rendered wichert to the west bay, all under a thatched roof. The roof is hipped at the west end and features three brick chimneys and a single eaves dormer to the west bay, with a section tiled in the centre. The two-storey, five and a half-bayed facade has irregularly spaced two-light wooden casements, some with leaded glazing. An eastern bay was added in the 1970s. The south elevation has a central door flanked by three-light leaded casements with segmental arched heads. The interior retains exposed timber framing and a central inglenook within a curtailed stack. The house is documented in the RCHM volume I, page 292.
