Description
Denham Court is an early and late 18th-century country house that has undergone 19th-century alterations. The main garden front, dating from the late 18th century, is constructed of brown brick with red gauged brick window heads and features stone bands and a cornice. The slate roof is set behind a parapet. The central section of the house is three storeys high with a 2:3:2 window arrangement, where the middle three windows are recessed. There are stone bands at the second and first floor levels of the central three windows only. The entrance features a pedimented doorcase with a fluted frieze, sheltered by a large 19th-century painted Roman Doric porch.
Flanking the central section are two-storey wings, each with a large three-window bow. Glazing bar sashes are preserved in the wings and on the upper floor of the central section. The east front is similar, also two storeys high with a 1:3:1 window layout, where the central three windows form a broad shallow bow with tripartite cambered head ground floor sashes and sash windows above. The ends of this front have blank first-floor windows and a round arched doorway below, which features a moulded impost and keystone. The eaves are overhanging with a panelled soffit.
The north front, dating from the early 18th century, is made of red brick that has been painted, with a hipped slate roof. This side is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range of sash windows that have gauged brick heads and a stone cornice. The doorway has gauged brick jambs and is also adorned with a 19th-century painted Roman Doric porch. To either side, there are service additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. The west side service range features an 18th-century brick front that is two storeys high with a ten-window range, complete with a floor band and nogged brick eaves. The windows include small first-floor and larger ground-floor openings with gauged brick heads, including one ground-floor Venetian window.
Inside, there are two early 18th-century rooms on the ground floor, one of which contains panels featuring sporting and other paintings, while the other has a marble fireplace and an overdoor with landscape paintings. The house also includes a 19th-century staircase.
