Description
The Manor House, located in Little Missenden Village, is a building that dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, with a refacing in the 18th century. The north-east wing is a two-storey timber-framed structure from the 16th century, featuring modern cement infill and an old tiled roof. This late medieval hall house has smoke-blackened roof timbers.
The main block is constructed of red brick and has a hipped old tile roof with an eaves cornice. It stands three storeys tall and includes first and second floor bands. There are six windows, which consist of modern casements and double-hung sashes, with flat arches on the ground and first floors. The east elevation features a semi-octagonal bay with an open round-headed arcade on the ground floor. The staircase turret and rear elevation have stone mullioned and transomed cross-casements, while timber cross-casements flank the building.
The staircase tower, dating from the early 17th century, contains a fine staircase with turned balusters and tall finials on the newel posts. The rear elevation showcases 17th-century brick gables.
