Description

The Old Parsonage is a house located in Lower Winchendon, originally built in the early 17th century and altered in 1676, with a rear wing added in 1807. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill, featuring some sections in herringbone and others in a chevron pattern. The left bays of the ground floor and the left gable on the ground floor are colourwashed and rendered, partly over witchert. There are two rear wings made of brick, and the building is topped with old tile roofs, which are half hipped on the left and hipped on the northeast wing.

The house has three bays and is two storeys tall, plus an attic. A six-panel door is located between the right-hand bays, leading into a lobby entry type plan. The windows are three-light casements, and there is a central three-light gabled dormer with a date plaque reading 'I.M. 1676', marking the year of the alterations and the creation of attic rooms. A modern two-light casement is present in the first-floor room in front of the stack. The rear wings feature casements, and the northeast range has an inscribed brick indicating 'M.C. 1807'. A compound stack with pilaster strips and a corbelled cap is situated between the right-hand bays.

Inside, the right-hand ground floor room has a moulded spine beam and inglenook fireplaces. The attics contain large curved principal trusses that date back to the 1676 alterations.
