Description
Bassetsbury Manor is a late 17th century or early 18th century building located on Bassetsbury Lane. It features red and chequered red and grey brickwork and an old tiled roof, designed in an L-shape with the main fronts facing north and west. The north front includes a chamfered plinth, a first-floor string course, and a wooden modillioned cornice. There are seven wood mullioned and transomed two-light flush casements beneath flat arches, with first-floor aprons. The central entrance consists of a two-fold 12 fielded panel door framed by an architrave, slim brick pilasters, and an ovolo cornice topped with a lead cartouche. A rainwater head dated 1734 features the initials SW. The west front mirrors this design with six windows. The south end was rebuilt around 1930, featuring a wooden loggia supported by 17th-century Corinthian columns sourced from a house in Nottingham Market Place. The upper storey of the south front has been redesigned, showcasing a central round-headed window set in a brick panel with a rusticated flint surround, flanked by oblong panels that contain carved wooden reliefs of animal masks above scrollwork. A chimney stack with four diagonally set shafts indicates a 17th-century structure, while the back elevations exhibit characteristics from the 16th century. Bassetsbury Manor is part of a group that includes Chequers, Bassetsbury Mill, Manor, Stables, and Barn.
