Description

The building at No. 55 Long Crendon High Street, formerly known as Madges and a range of buildings continuing to the south, comprises two distinct parts originating in the 16th century and the 18th century. The left-hand section is two storeys high and has a timber frame construction on a stone base, with a thatched roof. A yard entry is visible on the left side. Brick infill fills the spaces within the timber frame, and there is one two-light casement window and one upper window set into the thatch, both with modern diamond-leaded glazing. The right-hand section dates to the 18th century and is two storeys high, constructed of brick on a stone plinth, with dentil brick eaves and an old tile roof hipped at the north end. The front of this section is long, featuring four three-light casement windows on the first floor, and two similar windows on each end of the ground floor, with pairs of two-light windows grouped beneath the central upper windows. The rear of the building is gabled and irregular in form.
