Description

Brent Viaduct, built in 1838 by Robert Stephenson, is a notable structure made of stock brick. The west face features a large central arch that spans North Circular Road, which was formerly over the River Brent. This arch is framed by brick pilasters topped with modillioned capitals, supporting a continuous parapet cornice. The viaduct includes smaller side arches and has been widened on the east side, although the east face is obscured by an adjoining bridge but maintains the same architectural treatment. This original and largely unaltered viaduct is part of the London and Birmingham Railway, which carries the main line from Euston, as described by J Bourne in 'London and Birmingham Railway' from 1838.
