Description
This is a barn located approximately 70 metres north-east of Hesworth Farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, and reusing some earlier timbers. It is timber-framed and clad in weatherboarding on ironstone footings, topped with an old tiled roof that is hipped to the south-west and gabled to the north-east. The barn consists of three bays from a former five-bay structure, with a former central cart entrance now situated in the northernmost bay, which is hipped to the north-east. Inside, there are aisles with upright posts featuring a cut profile on ironstone saddlestones. The roof includes angled queen struts and through purlins without a ridge piece, and there are diagonal braces in the wall frame. The wall frame is mostly intact, except for the north-west wall, which is mainly 20th century due to the demolition of two bays.
