Description
Brinkwells is a cottage that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It has a timber frame that has been refaced with stone rubble and features a hipped thatched roof. The cottage is two storeys high and has casement windows, with one window visible from the front. There is a modern weather-boarded bay that has been built out on the west side. A tablet on the cottage notes that Sir Edward Elgar lived here from 1917 to 1919, during which time he composed his cello concerto. However, the detached room in the garden that served as his study has been demolished.
