Description
Winton Field Cottages are a pair of cottages that date back to the 18th century in appearance, although they incorporate the core of a 17th century or earlier house. The cottages are faced with flint and have red brick dressings, with tiled roofs and chimneystacks at each end. They are two storeys high and feature a total of ten windows, arranged in a 4:6 configuration. The early 19th century metal-framed casements are present, except for two ground floor windows, which have cambered heads. There is a brick platband and a plinth at the base. The doorcases are fitted with concrete lintels and half-glazed doors. An integral lean-to is located on the north side, and there is a 20th century extension at the rear of number 2. Inside, number 2 boasts a large inglenook fireplace that predates the 18th century, while number 1 features a lobby entrance, exposed floor joists, and a smaller inglenook fireplace with a wooden bressumer.
