Description
The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is a Grade I listed building located in Upwaltham. It features a chancel and nave, along with a western bell turret that is weather-boarded and has a hipped tiled roof. The chancel dates back to the 13th century and has an apsidal end, while the nave is from the 12th century. The church is constructed from roughcast Wealden sandstone and has a tiled roof. It is one of only three medieval churches in Sussex with an apsidal end. Inside, there is a crown post roof and a 12th-century piscina made from a volute capital. This charming small medieval church has undergone very little restoration.
