Description

St Ann's is a house that may have early 18th century origins but is primarily from the late 18th century, with the date 1789 carved in serif style into the jamb of the rear door. The front features ground floor diaper brickwork with fewer grey headers on the upper floors, while the side has a tile-hung ground floor with painted brick above. The rear is constructed of stone rubble with red brick dressings. It has a hipped tiled roof with end brick chimneystacks. The main house has three storeys and a front facade with a 4:4:2 window arrangement. The windows are cambered sashes, with 9 panes on the second floor and 12 panes on the lower floors. The doorcase includes a wooden architrave with pilasters, a 6-panelled door, three steps, and a curved iron handrail. There is a moulded cornice and plinth. The rear elevation has irregular fenestration with 9, 12, or 16 paned sashes, some tripartite windows, and a first-floor 3-light curved bow supported on circular columns. An attached two-storey rear wing, made of stone rubble with red brick dressings and a tiled roof, was likely originally a service building. Inside, there is a contemporary staircase. Records of tenancy agreements for the property date back to the early 18th century.
