Description
The Public Library, formerly known as the County Library, is a building that originated as four cottages but has been combined into one structure. It dates back to the 17th century or earlier and features a timber-framed design, with some exposed timbering and painted brick infilling. Most of the ground floor has been refaced with brick and stone, which is now painted, while the majority of the first floor is tile-hung. The first floor has a bellcast that oversails, with exposed timbers in the center, although at the north end, these timbers have been boxed in. The building has a tiled roof, casement windows, and outside brick stairs towards the south end. It stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring six windows and two dormers.
