Description
Brook Barn is a barn built in the early to mid 18th century, which incorporates older timbers. The south side features clunch with ironstone galleting, a style typical of buildings from the Petworth estate during that period, while the other sides are weatherboarded over a timber frame. The barn has a tiled roof and a central double cart entrance that is lower on the south side. It consists of three bays and is aisled to the south. Notably, the roof includes one queen post and one angled queen strut. The wall frame features a mid-rail and some diagonal braces. The roof structure has through purlins and a ridgepiece, and it contains many roughhewn timbers, some of which are reused, including a top of a wallplate with diamond mullions. Additionally, there are some later diagonal struts that have been bolted on.
