Description
The Old Laundry and Kitchen Block at Up Park is a Grade I listed building located to the northeast of the main house. Built around 1770 by Sir Matthew Fetherstonhaugh, it is one of two balancing wings designed to replace earlier wings from the original construction by Talman. The blocks are linked to the main house by underground passages, which converge beneath a roundel outside the front door, connecting to a third passage from the back door to the north. The kitchen has not been in use since the death of Miss Frances Fetherstonhaugh in 1895. Each block features two storeys and five windows, constructed of red brick. The central three-window bay projects and is topped with a pediment. The building has a hipped slate roof with turret cupolas at the center and is fitted with sash windows.
