Description
The Parish Church of St Mary is a parish church located in Harting, dating from around 1300, with elements from the late 16th century. It is constructed from malmstone rubble and features tiled roofs. The church has a cruciform layout, with a north chapel adjacent to the chancel and originally a south chapel, which is now in ruins. There are aisles to the nave and a north porch. The central tower is topped with a broached spire covered in copper. Most of the church dates back to around 1300, except for the south chapel, which was added by the Cryll family as their mortuary chapel around 1610 but fell into ruins by the 19th century. The north porch was added in 1938. The original roof was destroyed by fire around 1576 and was subsequently rebuilt in the late 16th century.
