Description
Holy Trinity Church is a church designed in 1867 by Habershon and Brock, located on land donated by Mr. Peachey of Ebernoe House. It is built in the Gothic style using red brick with decorative polychrome patterns in yellow and black brick, along with Wealden sandstone dressings. The church features a tiled roof and a timber-framed porch. The structure includes a four-bay nave with a bellcote at the west end, a south porch, a two-bay lower chancel, and a northeast vestry.
On the exterior, the nave has four double lancet windows separated by triangular buttresses. The west end showcases a prominent central window with a trefoil and a quatrefoil above it, along with a gabled bellcote flanked by single lancets. The south porch has a brick and stone base with a timber-framed upper structure and a gabled tiled roof. The lower chancel contains two pointed windows and a traceried east window, while the gabled vestry has two cambered-headed windows and a chimneystack.
Inside, the nave features an arched braced roof with boarding, and the chancel has a barrel-vaulted roof. The chancel arch is supported by brackets and includes stencilled text. The interior also contains a font, pews, stained glass from 1914 in the east and west windows, a tiled floor, and a house organ from around 1920.
The church was built because the existing church in Kirdford was too far for the local community, with Mr. Peachey providing the land and a right of way. The total cost of construction was £1,200.
