Description

The Yarn Market, built in 1609 and repaired in 1647 before a later restoration, is an octagonal structure. It features a massive central stone pier supporting a heavy timber framework that rests on a low rubble stone wall. The timber framework supports a slate roof with a central wooden lantern, topped by a weather vane engraved with the initials 'GL' and the date 1647. Eight gabled dormers are present, each containing three-light leaded wood casement windows with moulded wood mullions. The building is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Somerset County No 32).
