Description
This is a threshing barn located approximately 15 metres north of Hole Farmhouse, likely built in the 17th century and re-roofed in the 20th century. The structure is made of granite stone rubble, including some fairly large blocks, and features a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatch.
The barn faces south into the farmyard of the farmhouse and has opposing doors slightly right of centre leading onto the threshing floor, with the front door being larger than the rear. These doorways appear to have been relocated from the centre to accommodate threshing machinery in the 19th century. The roof is gable-ended.
Inside, the barn is open to the roof, which was completely renewed in the 20th century. This barn is part of a group of attractive farm buildings near the significant Dartmoor longhouse, Hole Farmhouse.
