Description
Butterwell is a structure located approximately 20 metres south-east of Drascombe Barton. It is likely from the 18th century, though it may be older. The butterwell is constructed from roughly-shaped blocks of granite and stands about 1.20 metres high, with a square plan. Three sides are enclosed, and it has a roof made from a single slab of granite. The north-east side is open, and the structure is built over a shallow circular well. There are no visible shelves or a door inside; instead, a stone slab rests across the front. This butterwell is situated in an orchard and is part of a group that includes the significant farmhouse, Drascombe Barton, along with its garden walls and cider house.
