Description
Lower Lodge is a house that was formerly the south lodge of Buckland Court. It was likely built in the mid-19th century and is designed in a simplified Tudor style. The building is constructed of granite rubble with slated roofs. A large granite ashlar chimneystack is located on the ridge at the center of the south range. The lodge has a U-shaped plan and is one storey tall with garrets.
The main front faces south and features two windows. At the center of the ground storey, there are four deeply projecting granite ashlar piers on pedestals that support a pent roof made of dressed granite. The two outer bays between the piers each contain a small window. This arrangement is flanked by two additional windows, and above it are two dormer gables with kneelers.
On the west gable wall of the south range, there is a shallow rectangular bay window with a flat roof in the center of the ground storey. To the left of this bay window, the west wing has a ground storey that includes a blocked doorway (now converted into a window) at the right end and two narrow windows to the left. Above, just to the left of the blocked doorway, is another dormer gable with kneelers. All the windows have 20th-century metal casements. The building was formerly known as Buckland Lodge.
