Description

Hanger Farm House is a farm house dating from the late 15th century to early 16th century, with later alterations from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. It is constructed of coursed granite and features a slate roof with gabled ends. The building has two storeys and a six or seven window range, with hollow-chamfered stone mullion-transom windows. The ground floor to the right has a hall that projects and contains two late 15th century or early 16th century two-light windows with four-centred arch lights and labels. There is a gabled cross-wing at the lower end, adorned with slate hanging and a pair of sash windows on each floor. The entrance features a moulded four-centred arch doorway leading to the cross passage, complete with a label and spandrels. Granite chimneystacks with moulded stone caps are positioned, one at the higher end and the other off-centre to the right of the cross-passage, along with a corbelled chimneystack on the side of the cross-wing.

Inside, the stack backs onto the cross-passage and has a moulded timber bressumer above the fireplace. There is a three-centred arch doorway in the cross-passage. The hall has an inserted floor with cambered moulded beams, and there are three-centred arch doorways leading to the solar and another to the stair turret at the rear. The solar features a moulded stone chimneypiece and moulded ceiling beams. The lower end contains well-preserved early 18th century panelled rooms with similar moulded ceilings and a 16th century ogee-headed stone chimneypiece. A staircase from the 18th century is located at the lower end at the rear. Additionally, there is a garderobe at the rear of the solar. The property also includes a low granite garden area wall to the south, which features a mounting block.
