Description

The Mudge headstone, dated 1830, is located approximately 12 metres east of the chancel of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Drewsteignton. This headstone is made of slate and stands about 900mm high. It features a shaped, round head adorned with acroteria that are carved with flames. The headstone has a simple border of repeated intersecting arcs. The decorative scrollwork is carved above the first word "Sacred," which is inscribed in Gothic lettering. The remainder of the inscription is in Roman upper and lower case lettering, commemorating the death of Thomas Mudge in 1830.
