Description

Haycroft Cottage is a cottage that may have originally been a detached bakehouse, likely built in the 17th century and modernised around 1980. It is constructed from granite stone rubble, with the front plastered, and features a granite stack and chimney shaft with a large oven projection. The cottage has a thatched roof and a two-room plan, facing north and backing onto the road. The left room includes a large projecting end stack.

The exterior has a regular but not symmetrical two-window front, which contains 20th-century casements without glazing bars, similar to those at the rear. At the left end, there is a 20th-century door with a contemporary slate-roofed porch, and the roof is hipped to the left. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey. Haycroft Cottage is part of a group of attractive listed buildings in Murchington.
