Description
Butterwell is a structure located approximately 9 metres north-east of Collihole Cottage, built over a natural spring, likely in the 17th or 18th century. It is constructed from granite. The spring head is enclosed on three sides by large, roughly-squared granite slabs, with another slab forming a flat roof. The south-east side is open, featuring a slab that serves as a platform in front. Any shelving that may have existed inside has been removed. This butterwell, which still supplies water to the nearby Collihole Cottage, is a charming feature of the hamlet that includes two important listed farmhouses.
