Description
This is an early 18th-century barn located approximately 12 metres east of Humphries End House. The barn incorporates a former stable. It is constructed from roughly squared and coursed rubble limestone, largely dry-built, with a Welsh slate roof. The barn has a west gabled porch, situated off-centre, featuring eight rows of pigeon holes above a plank door under a timber lintel. A lean-to outshut with a corrugated iron roof adjoins the porch on the left. To the right of the porch are two doorways with stone lintels, and a large, centrally located blocked doorway with a pointed stone lintel in two parts. A small single-light opening sits nearby. A tall, single-light opening is present in the south gable end, with a loft doorway above, also with a timber lintel. A similar loft doorway is on the north end, accompanied by a two-light opening below. An off-centre barn doorway on the east side has been filled in with weatherboarding. Three blocked slit vents are visible, one containing a later grain outlet. The interior has not been inspected, but the barn is said to contain one upper cruck bay. The barn is part of a group of buildings including Humphries End House and occupies an important position alongside the road.
