Description
The drinking fountain is located on the west side of the North Gate in Gloucester, dating from 1863. It is made of cast iron and stuccoed brick. The fountain is positioned to the left and a hydrant to the right, both set into a stuccoed semicircular arched panel that is framed by a bull-nosed moulding. This installation was carried out by the former Gloucester City Board of Health following a request from merchants in the Docks to provide a public drinking fountain for their workers.
