Description

Woodfield House is a detached house dating from the mid-18th century, with 19th-century canted bay windows and a late 17th-century wing. The building is constructed of coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and features ashlar bay windows and a stone slate roof. The main range has two storeys with an attic and includes a central staircase hall that projects at the back, with one room laterally. A 19th or early 20th-century outshut has been added at the back, connecting to a barn, and the late 17th-century wing is attached to the end of the main range.

The main front has three windows: two 19th-century two-storey canted bays flanking a central doorway. Each bay has paired 8-pane sashes on the front face and a single 8-pane sash on the sides. The façade features moulded string courses and a flat parapet roof. The central doorway is framed by a beaded architrave and topped with a pediment that has a pulvinated frieze. The door itself has six fielded panels, and there is a sash window above it with a beaded architrave and keystone. A plain band runs across the façade, interrupted by the doorway pediment and the bays, and there are moulded eaves. The parapet end gables of the 18th-century house feature ridge-mounted ashlar chimneys with moulded caps, string courses, and skirts.

The late 17th-century wing has irregular fenestration, including two 2-light chamfered mullioned casements on the upper floor. On the northeast side of the stair wing, which has a hipped roof, there is a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned window with hood moulding. The interior is primarily early 19th-century, with a staircase that has moulded strings and stick balusters, and the principal rooms contain two simple Neo-classical stone fireplaces. The attached barn is not of special interest.
