Description
This linhay, located approximately 5 metres north of Fuidge Manor, is a structure from the 18th century that has been converted into a calf house. It was reroofed in the 19th century. The building features plastered cob on stone rubble footings and has a corrugated iron roof, which was originally thatched.
The linhay was originally an open-fronted eight-bay structure facing southwest. Currently, the ground floor, which serves as a cow byre, has been infilled with plastered concrete blocks, while the hayloft above is weatherboarded. Despite these changes, the original structure, as renovated in the 19th century, remains intact. The front ends of the crossbeams are tenoned into full-height posts, characteristic of Alcock's linhay type T1. These posts are set on tall granite pads that were added in the 19th century and support the outer ends of 19th-century replacement king post trusses. The roof is hipped at both ends.
