Description
The Old Grammar School, located at 108 and 110 Fore Street, was founded and built in 1670 by Thomas Crispin. This two-storey building is constructed from local stone and features three windows facing Fore Street. It has an original entrance arch with a tablet above it, and on the first floor, there are three 5-light mullion casements. Inside, the schoolroom boasts pine panelling, a Master's desk canopy, and the Royal Arms displayed above. There is also a four-storey gabled stone annexe, likely built in the early 19th century in a Tudor style, which complements the older structure that was probably restored around the same time. The building is part of a group with the Methodist Church located at Nos 100 to 126 (even) and Nos 130 to 136 (even).
