Description

Oakenham Bridge is a bridge that carries a track over the River Avon. It was built around the early 19th century using slate rubble and features a dressed slate arch. The bridge has a single span segmental arch and low parapets that are swept out at the ends over the abutments. The parapets are capped with pitched slate, which has been rebuilt in places, and they also have cemented capping. The bridge was likely constructed to provide access to the limekilns located immediately to the southwest in North Huish Parish. Oakenham Bridge is positioned on the parish boundary between North Huish and Diptford.
