Description
The Nook is a cottage, probably from the 18th century, which was likely divided into two separate homes when it was extended at the back in the late 19th century. It returned to a single residence in the 20th century. The building features painted rendered stone rubble and cob, with a pantiled roof and gable ends. There are stone rubble stacks at the gable ends, each with slate-capped projections for a bread oven. The cottage has a two-room plan, with doorways that provide direct access to each room, and it includes two adjoining two-storey service wings added in the late 19th century that contain staircases. The structure is two storeys high and has a three-window range. On the right end, there are two 20th-century two-light casements and a 19th-century two-light basement window with six panes per light. The ground floor features a two-light six-paned casement on the left and a four-paned window to the right of a 20th-century lean-to porch, which has two plank inner doors. A brief inspection of the interior indicated that many of the 19th-century fittings remain largely intact.
