Description
The gateposts and gates, located approximately 200 metres east of the Old Rectory, date from around 1840 to 1850 and are made of cast iron. They feature two thin square-sectioned iron gateposts with panelled sides. The front of each post displays a bas relief inscription reading 'Robert Wright, Sandford', along with applied anthemion motifs at the top and flattened octagonal caps. The gate itself has two bays with horizontal circular iron rails. Each bay includes straight cross braces with large circular bosses at the centre. Additionally, there are heavy circular bosses adorned with lion head masks, surrounded by the inscription 'Robert Wright, Sandford'. The end stiles extend to the top rail as ornamental scrolls, and the central upright is topped with a fleur-de-lys on bifurcated scrolls.
