Description
This building consists of a barn and stables located approximately 2.5 metres north-west of Gordhayes Farmhouse. The barn dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and was refurbished in the mid or late 19th century, at which time the stable block was also constructed. The structure is primarily made of local stone and flint rubble, with sections of cob on stone rubble footings, and features a corrugated iron roof.
The barn is designed as a threshing barn and has large opposing doors that open onto the threshing floor. The stable extends at a right angle from the right end of the front (north-east side) of the barn. The front of the barn features a large, nearly full-height doorway located to the right of centre, along with a smaller doorway to the left. The stable's front has a doorway with a hayloft loading hatch above at the left end, a window to the right of this, and the right end of the stable has been converted into a garage. The barn roof is half-hipped on the left side and hipped on the right. Inside, the barn is open to the roof, which includes two original side-pegged jointed cruck trusses.
