SY 29 NE MUSBURY AXMINSTER ROAD 10/430 8.5.67 Chapel at Ashe House

Chapel disused. Fabric said to be C14,restored and fenestrated in circa C17. Licensed in 1387. Small stone rubble chapel with freestone dressings and slate roof with stone coping to gable ends with apex finials. Two, three and four-light chamfered stone window with flat heads with hoodmoulds. Moulded Tudor-arched south doorway and blocked doorway in west end. Said to have been joined to house before house was reduced. Interior: indications of former coved plaster ceiling. Piscina with mould two-centred arch. In 1650 John Churchill, First Duke of Marlborough, was baptised in the chapel.
