Description
This is a water mill, associated mill buildings, and a miller's house, dating back to the 18th century with 19th-century additions, possibly built on a medieval mill site. The mill house is constructed of roughcast stone with a gable-ended slate roof, two storeys high, and features a three-window front. It has two and three-light casement windows with glazing bars, and a central door and window sheltered by a canopy. A loft door is located to the right. Adjoining the mill house to the left (north) is a two-storey, two-window stuccoed addition from the 19th century.
The mill itself adjoins the house to the south and east. The original 18th-century stone rubble watermill has a roughcast exterior and has been heightened with corrugated iron. To the rear (east), a long range of stone rubble construction with a corrugated asbestos roof extends the complex. A mid-19th century steam mill addition is located to the southeast, built of red brick with a slate roof, and features two storeys, a three-window front, iron-frame windows with segmental heads and small central opening lights, and a brick chimney stack at the southeast corner. Internally, the original water mill machinery remains, although the undershot wheel has been replaced by two turbines installed by Armfield and Company of Ringwood, Hampshire.
