Description
This is a late 17th-century threshing barn located approximately 8 meters northwest of Denbow Thatch. It is constructed from local brick laid in English bond and features a corrugated iron roof over the original thatch. The barn is gable-ended and oriented on a northeast/southwest axis, with central full-height doorways on each side. The northwest front is the only exposed side, while the other side is covered by a 20th-century garage, although it appears to be largely intact. The northwest front features a large central doorway flanked by short projecting midstrey walls, and there are two 20th-century windows. The eaves of the roof extend down to form a small hood over the door. Inside, the barn is open to the original six-bay roof, which consists of tie-beam trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars, and it retains its original trenched purlins and pairs of common rafters. This barn is a very complete example from the late 17th century and was likely built around the same time that Denbow Farmhouse was reorganized and extended.
