Description
Smithfield Cottages are three cottages dating from the 17th century, constructed of rubble stone with stone-tiled roofs. They feature moulded coping on the gables, which have finials, and a central ridge stack on the main range. The cottages have two dormer gables and a two-window arrangement of three-light ovolo-moulded windows, all equipped with hoodmoulds. The south end wall includes a blank attic two-light window, a first-floor three-light window, and a ground-floor four-light window, with two lights of the ground-floor window removed to accommodate a door.
The rear return has a dormer gable with a similar two-light window. The rear wing contains a ridge stack and a door on the east side set in a moulded surround, with a three-light mullion window to the right. The west side of the wing features two dormer gables, with a three-light window and a two-light window, as well as a door in a moulded surround with a hoodmould and a three-light window to the left. All windows throughout the cottages are fitted with hoodmoulds. The north end of the main range has a two-light window with a hoodmould on both the ground and first floors.
