Description
Marlborough Buildings is a three-storey and attic terrace of 1878 built in the Georgian style, with a painted ashlar facade. The buildings have two windows to each house with late-glazing sashes. A cill band, dentil cornice, and blocking course are present. A central passage runs through the buildings, and above it is a shield carved with "1878 +" and "Marlborough Buildings". On the second floor is a panel of fruit and flower bas relief. A moulded cornice defines the common fascia above the ground floor, where original shop fronts have been retained, interrupted by the central passage. Two-storey gabled extensions are located at the rear.
Nos. 2 to 4, No. 5 (Rodney House) with a stable yard and garden railings, stable buildings, and walls, Nos. 8 to 13, No. 25 (Lovemead House), garden wall and gate piers form a group with Polebarn House and its boundary wall, gate piers and gates, and buildings on Polebarn Road. This group also includes Nos. 1 to 6 (consec) Yerbury Almshouses on Yerbury Street.
