Description

Firestone Bay Tower is a blockhouse tower built for coastal defense between 1537 and 1539, later remodeled in the 19th century. The structure is made of stone rubble with some granite dressings and features a flat roof behind an embattled parapet. It has a polygonal plan and was extended to the northwest in the 19th century. The tower stands two storeys high with irregularly-disposed openings, some of which are enlarged from former gun loops. Notable original features include a chamfered two-centred arched doorway on the landward side and several original gun loops, including some located at the centers of the merlons. The interior has not been inspected. This tower is part of a series of coastal defense towers constructed during the reign of Henry VIII, which also includes Eastern King Tower, Fisher's Nose Tower, Madeira Road, and Devil's Point.
