Description

This is an 1833 school and schoolhouse, likely rebuilt at that time, situated on the north side of Village Street in Long Crichel. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork with some ashlar dressings, and has slate roofs. A brick stack is visible on the right gable of the schoolhouse, and paired, diagonally-set brick stacks are present where the ranges intersect. The schoolhouse section is two storeys high and two bays wide, featuring two-light casement windows with glazing bars. A part-glazed door is set within a gabled porch, which has a four-centred arch. The schoolroom is single-storey high and has mullioned windows, some with one light and some with three lights, all with square heads. A bell-cote is situated on the left side of the schoolroom. A plank door is found in a gabled porch to the left, above which is a datestone.
