Description
West Bourton Farmhouse, which includes an attached barn, is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features rubble walls and a gabled roof covered with tiles, along with stone-slate verges. There are brick stacks located to the right and at the center of the building. The farmhouse is two stories high and has a four-window range, with casements that are either two, three, or four lights, some of which have full glazing bars while others have horizontal glazing bars. The heavy timber lintels add to its character.
On the left side of the central stack, there is a plain plank door that is sheltered by a 18th-century segmental hood supported by scrolled brackets. Adjacent to this is an integral barn that has double plank doors. The layout of the farmhouse consists of three rooms with a cross-passage plan, where the cross passage backs onto the stack.
Internal features noted include a plank and muntin cross-passage partition, blocked open fireplaces, a deep-chamfered cambered bressummer, and deep-chamfered ceiling beams. Although the interior was not inspected, the overall form of the building suggests it may have medieval origins.
