Description

The Dorset Martyrs Memorial is a public sculpture created by Elisabeth Frink, which honors individuals executed for their religious beliefs in the 16th and 17th centuries at Gallows Hill in Dorchester. Designed in 1983, it was installed in 1986 on the site of the former gallows.

The memorial features three larger-than-life bronze cast figures, each with a flat rectangular base, arranged in a triangular formation facing inward. They are situated on stone setts laid in a circular pattern, with a circular bronze plaque at the center. The plaque bears the raised lettering that reads 'FOR / CHRIST / AND / CONSCIENCE / SAKE'.
