Description
The farmhouse, now a house, likely has earlier origins but is dated 1676 on a fireplace. It underwent alterations in the 19th century and was substantially altered and enlarged in the late 20th century. The construction is granite rubble with granite dressings, featuring 20th-century slate roofs with gable ends and granite ashlar gable end stacks. A rear wing, heated by a stack formerly at the gable end on the roof slope, has also been significantly altered.
Originally, the front range comprised two rooms with a central passage, with each room heated by a gable end stack. A single-story wing to the rear originally had a room plan, with its own end stack, and this has been enlarged in the late 20th century into a wide, gable-ended wing of one-and-a-half storeys. An outshut is present at the left gable end of the front range, single storey in height and containing a pigeonloft, possibly dating back to the late 17th or early 18th century.
The front features a porch currently under construction, incorporating a granite outer doorway with a four-centred arch, hollow-chamfered, and an inner 20th-century glazed door. The bay to the left appears to have been extended forward, with its eaves level raised in the 20th century. It has a 20-pane sash window at ground floor and a 6-pane sash window at first floor under the eaves. To the right, a ground floor 6-pane sash window has granite lintels and jambs. A small 2-light casement is situated under the eaves above the porch, with a 12-pane sash window at first floor to the right. The right gable end features an external stack with a cornice, while the left gable end has a stack with slate weathering. An addition to the left includes a lean-to roof and a re-sited, chamfered granite doorway with a two-centred arch, glazed in the 20th century, with pigeon holes above in slate, irregularly spaced. A 20th-century window is present at ground floor left on the right gable end, alongside a 12-pane sash window at first floor right.
The rear wing, situated to the right, projects slightly from the gable end, displaying granite quoins and only one original roof pitch remaining with rag slates. 20th-century alterations have considerably widened the wing; the stack, previously nearly central, is now below the ridge to the left. This rear section has a 20th-century French window, a rubble gable end stack with a curved oven at the base, a 20th-century window to the right, and a doorway to the left of the stack with a granite lintel. A further 20th-century addition extends to the right, with two windows and a half-glazed door. The side of this addition has a half-glazed door. The rear of the main range contains a C20 window at first floor right, a door to the rear of the outshut, and a C20 window to the side.
The interior has been altered in both the 19th and 20th centuries. A 20th-century staircase has replaced the original staircase in the front range. The gable end fireplace in the rear wing has a flat granite lintel carved with initials and the date W1676K. The house was formerly part of the Pelyn estate and was sold in 1925.
