Description
Hawker's Hut is a small rectangular hut built in the 1840s, with some repairs made in the 20th century. It was designed by the Reverend R S Hawker for his personal use. The hut is situated against a cliff, overlooking the sea. Inside, it features a slate floor and fixed timber seats. The roof is covered in turf and has two wooden boards across the eaves above the stable door, which is made of five planks and has wood latches and iron strap hinges. There are vertical planks on each side of the exposed stiles. The hut was constructed using timbers salvaged from the wreck of the 'Alonzo'. R S Hawker, who was a poet and antiquary, used this hut for composing verse and reflection during his time as vicar of Morwenstow from 1835 to 1874.
